Invitation to 1st Touring Car Cup - The Ing. Zdenek Vojtech Memorial Race 2008
Introduction
Dear motorsport friends, Dear racers,
Our company Racing Service International L.L.L. would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a project in remembrance of, and a compliment to, Ing. Zdenek Vojtech, father, friend, pilot, great racing driver, CSSR champion, European champion, legend.
This project involves a series of four double-races of touring cars on a circuit under the name of, and with the permission of Mr. Stepan Vojtech, Touring Car Cup - The Ing. Zdenek Vojtech Memorial Race.
This year already marks 10 years since we said goodbye to Ing. Zdenek Vojtech. Zdenek is one of our best Czechoslovak and European pilots in the history of circuit racing. He started as a racing driver in rallies and hill climb races. However, it is not until the circuits that he becomes noticed and is registered by motorsport fans because of his unique driving style, not only in the former Czechoslovakia, but also throughout Europe.
He becomes famous on the Czechoslovak circuits because of his big driving encounters with rivals in the Skoda 130 RS car. At the same time, the famous racing trio Zdenek Vojtech – Bretislav Enge – Jan Senkyr comes into existence, which in the course of time is joined by Vaclav Bervid, and through their performance in the European Championship Touring Car series in 1981 for the Skoda make, earns them the absolute triumph and title of European Champions.
A year later, together with Bretislav Enge, they make life harder for the absolute European elite in the BMW 528i. A huge car fire denies them a great result in 1982 at the Grand Prix of Czechoslovakia in Brno. The Czech team of mechanics and technicians, who tried to deliver their best under the conditions of that time for their racers, performed an incredible job for the foreign rivals and managed, within 10 days, to rebuild and repair a totally damaged car to such an extent that it was capable of participating at the Austrian Zeltweg circuit. The efforts of the team were crowned by a historical first triumph by a Czechoslovak at a European Championship when Zdenek Vojtech and Jo Gardner (A), who replaced the burn-injured Bretislav, decisively won the race.
It was even moving to see how the Czech team and its racers were congratulated by all racing stars of that time, heads of factory teams and attending foreign journalists.

Bretislav Enge - Zdenek Vojtech
At the same time, this is a period in which the racing achievements of Zdenek start to draw the attention of foreign teams and media. The popular racing duo, Vojtech – Enge, enter the 1984 season in the BMW 635 Csi in the Hartge team which is directed by the then manager, Vaclav Bervid.
In this season, despite several technical difficulties, the racers perform exceedingly well. This leads to Zdenek being offered to join the BMW factory team whilst at the same time receiving an invitation to test for, and an offer of a position with, the Jaguar team where a racing overall has already been prepared for him. Zdenek decides to go with BMW and thus starts alongside Stefan Johansson and Marc Surer.
In the following season, he returns to the Vaclav Bervid team where in the subsequent years he proves his racing skills in the Mercedes 190 Carlsson cars and then with a BMW M3 of the Bastos team. It is Vaclav Bervid who declared that if it were not for the communist regime, then Zdenek would have been the one to introduce the Czech colours to Formula 1.
He did not leave the world of motorsports, even after finishing his racing career. He was involved at the start of the Peugeot Cup project in the Czech Republic and intensively supported his sons, Tomas and Stepan, during their first steps into car racing.
In a way he is still among us and many of us are with him, at least when remembering the racing stories and famous triumphs.
A part of the project will also be the 50th anniversary of the start of Vaclav Bervid’s racing career. He starts the Great Night Car Trial of the Central Bohemian region in a Skoda Popular. In 1960 he has his first start on a circuit at Havirov in a Skoda Octavia touring sport and finishes in 3rd place in the 1150 ccm category. Another historical moment was the founding of a commercial plant of Svazarm MTX – Metalex. He establishes this legendary mark together with Peter Bold, Karel Jilek, Dalibor Janek and Mr. Treybal, Mr. Bilek, Ing. Kleinmond and Mr. Pauer.
